Fantastic
Grand House is one of Chicago's best kept secrets. It's like staying at a friend's apartment for the night while they are away (but they have left you everything you will need to have a great stay). My room was extremely clean. The air conditioner was brilliant (it got so cold that I had to turn it down). I asked for a thicker blanket and the staff member at the house when I checked in gave me a wonderfully warm snuggly comforter and I left the air on (just like I like it). I paid the extra $25 for an early check in which was more than worth it. Yes there is no elevator but the two lots of steps to my room on the top floor was not a big deal as I only had a backpack. Shared bathroom & kitchen were well maintained and very clean. Fridge and coffee pot very appreciated and free excellent fast wifi. No TV in room was a little disappointing as it would have been great to relax in my room and watch TV but not a huge issue. I could have watched TV on my phone if I wanted to. Grand House is in a safe neighborhood very close to bus & train stops with a cute Cafe for breakfast and lunch nearby. Very quiet room and the key pad locks on each room and front door make it even safer. Thanks for a great stay Grand Hotel. See you next time I am in Chicago. Special shout out to the Gentleman on staff who greeted me when I arrived and gave me another blanket. He was very welcoming and helpful. Made me feel at home immediately.

Good
A good location in the city and relatively inexpensive, but... Though the room was clean it was listed as a Premier Studio Suite that sleeps 3, in fact there is only 1 small bed with no sleeping provisions for a 3rd person and I would not call it premier, nor studio. There is no en suite bathroom, only enough towels were provided for 1 person, despite it being advertised as a room for 3 people - as there is only 1 small bed, the third person ends up on the floor. Bed sheets/blanket were barely sufficient for 2, certainly not for 3. The property also has very narrow staircases to carry your bags up (no elevator), the front door auto-locks with a deadbolt very quickly, so if you don't close the door quickly enough, the deadbolt is activated and the door does not close or lock properly and the room door sticks and also does not close properly, meaning you have to slam it shut, else the door remains unlocked and open.

It’s a quick way to test for emergency, they will try to scam you by texting that your credit card did not process to resubmit payment. I was in a bind and missed a flight and needed a spot to stay at last minute, so I resubmitted again and was charged twice for the stay. I was denied refunds due to their policy. They knew that this room was already booked Expedia, yet they tricked me to double pay. Don’t fall for it.

Great
I had a great stay at Grand House Chicago. The location was very convenient and easy to get to. My room was clean, and the bathroom was spotless as well. It’s an excellent place for a short stay. My room was on the second floor, and the atmosphere was quiet and peaceful, even with neighboring rooms. I also appreciated the secure access with the entry code, which made me feel safe during my stay. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a clean and convenient place in Chicago.

Fantastic
For a low-cost, shared bathroom experience, it was excellent, very clean with CTA stations nearby. Also number 65 bus takes you to Navy Pier, very convenient. I recommend Grand House for location and low cost stay.

Prime location. I liked that it was close to the blue line and a straight shot down to the lake.

Solo stay

The property is within walking distance of many restaurants, shops, and even concert venues! The communal living spaces were well maintained and comfortable, and privacy was never a concern when needed.

Good
I paid for early check in, the payment site said my payment went through but I never got the confirmation email that the owners were aware of my early check in. So I showed up early, my code didn't work and someone had to let me in. The door to my room was open so I started to settle in and closed the door. About thirty minutes later someone knocks on the door and it's a staff member who was there to clean the floors. He wasn't made aware of my early check in- not his fault but I was trying to take a nap so it could have been much more awkward. So I stayed in the living room area for about ten minutes while he cleaned. The shower was grimy and had no hot water and there are big holes in the ceiling where the pipes are. Once 3 pm rolled around I had no issues with my code. Overall I just needed a place to rest for the night while I was in town so it was fine for that but I won't be re-booking if I return to Chicago.
