Fantastic
This place exceeded every expectation. From the moment I walked in, the service was outstanding. The staff were attentive, professional, and genuinely welcoming — exactly what you want after a long day of travel. Check-in was smooth and efficient. The room was spotless, well-appointed, and comfortable. Everything felt fresh and well-maintained. The attention to detail was evident throughout. The location is fantastic. Being in the heart of San Diego means you’re steps away from great dining, nightlife, and attractions, yet the hotel itself feels like a calm retreat. If you’re looking for a hotel in San Diego that actually delivers on its promises, this is it. I’ll absolutely be back.

The property is beautiful. It is an older building that has been remodeled and the decor is stunning. Despite having seen the pictures, the experience in person was even better. It is a large hotel with boutique hotel vibes. The hotel lobby smells incredible. The hallway to the rooms is purposely dimly lit to go with the vibe/ambiance/mood of the space. The rooms are a little small but they've maximized the space to have two small seating spaces and a large bed. The bathroom was very spacious. Again, the decor inside the rooms is also incredible. The snack dispenser on each floor was such a bonus. Would definitely recommend this hotel to others unless you are specifically looking for a pretty standard/basic hotel, this is not it. I also took my dog with me and had no issues whatsoever; he's small (15lb) and does well alone in the room. There was a small park one block away and a few more larger parks 5+ blocks away that lended themselves to some really nice walks. I should mention this hotel is located in the downtown/gaslamp area where there are lots of bars/restaurants within walking distance. There are some homeless people around, but I felt perfectly safe (we traveled from San Francisco and are used to this). Lastly, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful!

The hotel was beautiful. Just didn't like how expensive valet parking was. For 1 night it was over 60 dollars.

Great location and a charming boutique hotel. The room was clean, and the bed was very comfortable. I loved the thoughtful touch of having coffee and small snacks available on the floor, tucked away in a hidden wardrobe. There’s also more affordable public parking just two blocks away, which was very convenient. Overall, a pleasant and comfortable stay. One small suggestion: it would be nice to have a complimentary bottle of water available in the room without any extra charge.

Great

Solo stay

I gave this hotel a 4/5 because most of it was great, there were just a couple minor issues/annoyances. Overall it was a great stay and I'd probably visit again. Hotel Granger is beautiful, unique, and clean; I've stayed in few hotels like it. It celebrates its multipurpose history, especially how it housed San Diego Zoo animals for a time; there are animal motifs throughout, including charming details such as door handles shaped like crocodiles. The art, lighting, and architecture felt fancier than the price point would indicate. One strange thing was the bellhop telling me this was one of his favorite rooms...and it just overlooked, like, building vents. Was he being sarcastic? I didn't think so before I looked but now am not sure. Here's the biggest issue I had: I was having trouble with the television and called two different times (both before 10:30 p.m., so not overnight) for assistance, and reached an extremely unhelpful automated assistant both times. I was surprised a hotel of this caliber couldn't connect me to a human on multiple tries. However: I reached one on the third try, and while she couldn't help with the TV, as compensation she gave me a free hotel breakfast, which was excellent. Still, very frustrated it took 3 calls. Final Notes: The bed was SO comfortable. Soft, luxurious, with underlying firmness so I wasn't sinking. A/C had easy/intuitive controls. Hallway center of cold water, ice, coffee, candy, and nuts was handy and appreciated.

The room is large and clean. The ambience is the lobby is tranquil. In the center of downtown it so convenient to go to everywhere. Really like the small of the hotel, full of santal 33’s scent. I love this hotel.
