About the event

Lectures On The Ground, a lecture series bringing the hard topics of on-ground realities into unexpected spaces. First session 18 April 2026: Trauma on the Ground.

Lectures On The Ground (LOTG) is a lecture series that brings professors, practitioners, and experts into places where lectures are least expected to happen, taking place in cafés and everyday community spaces where people already gather.

Grounded in the common good of humanity, professional insight, and lived experience, LOTG invites people to rethink familiar topics, question assumptions, and see the realities of community life with greater clarity.

The aim is simple. Start conversations that deepen understanding and encourage people to engage more thoughtfully with the world around them.

FIRST SESSION 18 APR 2026: TRAUMA ON THE GROUND
For the first session, Mr Jeremy Ang, a practising psychologist of over a decade and key personnel at Action Potential, The Psychology Clinic at Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), will share insights on trauma-informed care and communication.

Today, the word “trauma” is often used loosely – from bad dates to awkward group chats, unpleasant experiences can seem “traumatic”. But what does trauma actually mean, and how does it shape the way people respond to help, relationships, and support?

This session unpacks the idea behind trauma-informed care, showing how awareness, language, and boundaries can help us engage with greater empathy, build trust, and respect the dignity of those who have experienced deeper adversity.

Come for the coffee. Stay for the conversation that may change how you see people.
