About The Lost Legacy of Fort Canning: The Forbidden Hill
For centuries, this hill carried a warning. The early Malay settlers refused to ascend it, believing it to be the burial ground of ancient kings — a place that belonged to forces that did not welcome the living. In 1819, when Stamford Raffles wanted to climb it, the Temenggong’s men warned him of sounds heard daily on the hill: hundreds of voices, heavy drums, ghostly shouts. Raffles climbed anyway. The local Malay population never followed. Now, for the first time, you are invited to enter the Forbidden Hill after dark.
The Lost Legacy of Fort Canning: The Forbidden Hill is an immersive nocturnal trail that leads you through Singapore’s most historic hill — not as a spectator, but as a participant. Through immersive soundscapes and live Nusantara inspired dance and movement, The Forbidden Hill brings 14th Century Singapura to dramatic life across six different stations in Fort Canning Park.
No answers promised. Only the mystery of a hill that has outlasted every empire…
