Reviews summaryWe had an amazing heli hike experience and were so fortunate to have Tyana as our guide! She was incredibly friendly, informative, and approachable throughout the entire trip. She made an effort to speak with every participant individually, constantly checked in to make sure we were doing okay, and patiently answered all our questions. Tyana shared so much interesting information about Fox Glacier, which made the experience even more memorable and meaningful. We felt very safe and well taken care of throughout the hike. All the necessary gear was provided, including waterproof pants and jackets, backpacks, hiking sticks, waterproof boots, and crampons, so we were fully prepared for the conditions. The hike itself was manageable and not overly tiring, with plenty of pit stops along the way to rest and take beautiful photos. Overall, it was such a fun and unforgettable experience, and we’re really happy to have had Tyana as our guide. Highly recommend!
This is one of the must do activities in New Zealand! I was initially skeptical thinking it wouldnt be enjoyable but I had so much fun! Everything was provided which kept us warm (even sweating!), instructions were clear, and we felt safe with the tour guide Zeki! He was very friendly and told us many stories and fun facts.
The front desk service (Quanzhou sister & mu) was very enthusiastic and provided complete information and surrounding travel tips. When we were getting equipped, the staff patiently explained everything and helped us put on our gear. The best part was our coach, Zeki, who was incredibly professional, explaining the formation of ice caves and the global warming crisis along the way. In addition, he gave every team member enough time to take photos, videos, and rest. He even demonstrated how to tie a safety lock on-site so that team members could rappel down to the melting ice. It was an absolutely fantastic trip!
Really a must try activity in NZ though it’s kinda expensive. But for the helicopter ride and 3 hours of hiking on the glacier, I would say it’s worth it. I feel safe throughout the activity and they provide good and ample attire and equipments to ensure you are safe and dry. The guides and the service staffs at the check in are all very professional and friendly.
There are many places to view glaciers on New Zealand's South Island, but Fox Glacier is definitely one to recommend. After checking in, you can store your belongings, pick up your gear, and listen to a thorough safety briefing. After the briefing, you'll take a shuttle to the airport to board a helicopter. About ten minutes later, you'll arrive at Fox Glacier itself. After walking on it for about three hours, you can't help but marvel at the beauty of nature, but also feel a sense of regret at how quickly the glacier is disappearing, making you cherish this trip even more.
An unforgettable experience. The service staff was very good and thoughtfully prepared all the equipment for us. Taking a helicopter to walk on the glacier, traveling with my 80-year-old aunt, can easily complete the trip. No one has an excuse to refuse such a personal experience. Really worth recommending.
fantastic experience, the hike is at a manageable pace for 50+yo eventhough is ~3 hrs+ hike. But if you have weak knee or ankle then need to reconsider this cause need to go thru lot of icy steps. The glacier is very interesting and stunning. Our guide- Flava is also very informative and helpful. This is definitely one of the best activities I have ever joined.
The reservation was cancelled due to weather conditions on the day, but fortunately we had one more day to prepare for the trip. It was incredible to see it with our own eyes by helicopter and actually walk on the glacier. I highly recommend it! !
The glacier hike experience was excellent 👍. The equipment was complete; you only need to bring your own sunglasses and beanie. The explanation was detailed, and they help take care of the children's clothing and safety. Most of the group members were Chinese, and they were well-behaved and the group was always orderly. The guide was also very patient and enthusiastic, gave detailed explanations, and tried his best to explore interesting routes, finding several blue ice caves. We also drank glacier water. The hiking time was long enough, and the difficulty was not high. My son said he didn't have enough fun. But a reminder: Fox Glacier and the other two glaciers are far apart. If departing from Tekapo, it's more suitable to go to Tasman Glacier. When booking, be sure to navigate the route and plan accordingly.
FOX Glacier's procedures are very complete. You will receive email notifications before the trip, and all equipment is provided (except sunscreen and sunglasses). Each guide takes a different route. There are about 11 people in a group, and the hiking time on the glacier is about 2.5 hours. The guide will take you to experience various glacier terrains and explain relevant knowledge about glaciers. It's very fun! ! !
