What to expect
Experience a hands-on introduction to the art of batik in this guided woodenware workshop. You’ll begin with a simple overview of what batik is, how it’s traditionally made, and its cultural significance. Next, you’ll choose from provided design templates and sketch your chosen pattern onto your wooden piece. You’ll then learn how to apply hot wax using a tjanting, creating the classic batik resist effect. After waxing, you’ll add colours using dyes and watch your design develop. Once the colours set, the wax is removed to reveal your completed artwork. At the end of the session, you’ll bring home a personalised wooden batik item that you created from start to finish

Reviews
It was such a fun, comfortable, and cozy session! It was fascinating to learn more about Batik and its widespread influence to many countries. Iolana was kind and patient, guiding everyone step by step. It was great that she suggested additional patterns/dots to add on to the existing design. Had a good learning experience on using the tool to batik on the mahogany plates.
Trainer is experienced and friendly. She is able to explain and share the history and instructions clearly. The engagement with the participants are good too. The venue was slightly warm in view of the recent hot weather. However, was grateful that a drink store is just round the corner and the drinks we ordered were brought to us.
Lolana is a very patient and Passionate teacher. We enjoyed the process of batik making. 👍
Truly its fun. Hope to join in more exciting workshop😊
