Reviews summaryThis is my first time in Cambodia, and I didn't expect that besides Angkor Wat, there would be such a fun activity like a cooking class! 😍 The store arranges for a tuk-tuk to pick us up from the hotel, and we visit the market together to learn about the local ingredients, and then we go to the store to visit their vegetable garden. Thank you, Kong, for your detailed explanation, humor, and friendliness! 👍 I learned a lot while chatting with him while strolling through the market. Next is the Khmer cooking session, where each person can choose to make four dishes, divided into appetizers, main courses, vegetarian dishes, and desserts. Sorya carefully noted everyone's dishes and patiently taught us each dish, what ingredients to use, how much seasoning to add, and how long to cook. Finally, with everyone's cooperation, we completed a rich table of dishes together! 🥳 So delicious, so fun, so fulfilling, and so satisfying! The staff's English is excellent, communication is stress-free, and they can also say some Chinese words, which is really sincere! 🤩 I really strongly recommend friends who come to Siem Reap to experience the Khmer cooking course if they have the opportunity. It's so interesting, you can get close to the local people's lives, and it's very meaningful! 😭
We booked quite last minute and managed to get a slot. Sorya was our teacher and we had the privilege to choosing our menu (4 dishes). She is knowledgeable and helpful. The instructions were clear and it was a great experience! we took teh 1230pm slot hence the market session was after the meal - not all stalls were set up.
Mr. King Kong is AMAZING!!! So through and we had so much fun cooking!! there were just the two of us, and we spent so much time cooking and talking to the team. Kong brought us around and showed us the local market, the garden they had that holds the spices and all! Just WOW... I had an amazing time with Kong, it's one of the best cooking classes I've been to~~
This was an amazing adventure. my husband who doesn't cook got to experience Khmer cooking. I would recommend this to anyone travertine here in Cambodia. Kong our tour guide was very funny and entertaining and our master chef Sivoon made it look so easy. Thank you for this experience.
Grandma's Kitchen in Cambodia offers a similar experience: visit a local market, then explore the kitchen's garden to learn about vegetables, and finally cook. Each person prepares four dishes, and it's very filling. The small class size ensures everyone receives thorough guidance from the instructor. If you're looking for activities beyond visiting temples in Cambodia, this is an excellent choice!
Amazing experience with the great Kong! We were a group of 5 who all chose our dishes to cook and stepped through each of the 5 dishes we each made (and later ate)! We started with a tour around the local market where many of our ingredients were sort from and upon return to the kitchen space we had a tour of the garden before choosing our dishes. Under the guidance of Chou we cooked and Choy was the assistant in the kitchen area making sure we had a clean space and everything we needed. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone.
It is a wonderful experience joining this tour. Whether you like cooking or not, it is a definitely worth participating. You will be introduced to sights at local markets. How the people make a living here. You also experience first hand the common ingredients used in their cooking. The cooking style. Best of all for health conscious, you control the amount of salt sugar you out in yiur own meal. Spevial mention to King Kong the host here. His English is excellent and very chatty. He anticipates all your questions and answers them perfectly. He is just everything that you would look for if you are finding a host to intro anf share experiences in Siem Reap. The cooking place is spotlessly clean. Very conducive place to learn cooking. They also plant and show and tell the many ingredients used in their cooking. What a wondrous experience!... Overall a 10/10 experience. Thank you!
Before the class started, they gave me a tour of the local market and explained a lot about the vegetables and herbs they grow in their garden. I was able to choose from several menu options for what I wanted to cook, and the instructor, Sivorn, taught us cheerfully and efficiently. (I was a little sad that I couldn't converse as much as I wanted to, as I'm not very good at speaking English.) There were only two participants, including myself, but we cooked and had dinner together while chatting, making it a very memorable experience. (If you couldn't finish your food, it seemed they would pack it in a container for you if you asked.) Sivorn took many photos and sent them to me along with the recipes after the class. Compared to the price range of other tours, it might be a bit expensive, but overall, I'm very glad I participated. It became a wonderful memory of Cambodia.
This tour offers a truly wonderful experience. First, I was picked up at my hotel, and after deciding on the menu, we visited a market frequented by locals. Our guide, King, provided detailed explanations about the ingredients and thoroughly answered all my questions. Afterward, we returned to the kitchen, toured the garden, and then began cooking. The guide patiently taught us how to prepare the dishes, and the seasoning was perfect. Even though I don't cook much, I was able to make delicious food. Thank you very much!
