What to expect
- The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is one of the ancient buildings remaining from the Tang Chang'an City and a landmark ancient building in Xi'an. It is now listed in the "World Heritage List."
- It was built by Master Xuanzang in the third year of Yonghui of the Tang Gaozong (652 AD) to store the Buddha statues, relics, and Sanskrit scriptures brought back from India. It was initially five stories high and has been rebuilt many times. The existing seven-story pagoda is 64.517 meters high and is a square pavilion-style brick tower. The tower consists of a tower base, tower body, and tower brake. It is made of ground bricks with seams, and the structure is rigorous.
- The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is located in the Da Ci'en Temple in Yanta District, Xi'an. The surrounding area is a large-scale tourist attraction. With the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda as its core, it forms the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda Cultural and Leisure Scenic Area, including the North Square of the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, the South Square, the East Garden of the Wild Goose Pagoda, the West Garden, and the South Garden. Among them, the North Square of the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda has the largest water landscape square in Asia, and its water feature fountain will form a unique landscape with the rhythm of the music; the East Garden of the Wild Goose Pagoda is the Grand View Garden of Shaanxi Opera; the West Garden of the Wild Goose Pagoda is the Grand View Garden of Shaanxi Folk Customs; the South Garden of the Wild Goose Pagoda is the Tang Da Ci'en Temple Relics Park. the guide is really very detailed that he explained every wall, statue or small building that we are walking by and gave an actual rundown of what is it about. worth the booking. most importantly, he is punctual.
my guide was fabulous. I loved how interactive she was and explained both historic names and present names which made it easy to understand. I ended up getting a Chinese guide which I was a bit worried about at first, however she was amazong. if you need a Chinese tour guide I highly recommend 白霜.
Our guide 张娜 (Zhang Na), a Chinese speaking guide, explained a lot of interesting information about the temple and the deities housed within, and also about the life of Xuanzang the monk. Highly recommend exploring the pagoda and temple with a guide to better understand the history.
Our guide, Ms Zhang Yi Dan, was very responsible, sent us the meet up time and location one day in advance, detailed the very interesting history of XuanZhang for 90 minutes non-stop and sent us more historical information after the tour.
