From Bangkok: Death Railway & Hellfire Pass Tour with Lunch

I knew exactly what it was we were going to see, my family did not so there are two perspectives captured here. I had already wanted to visit the Bridge over the River Kwai since I was in my teens by virtue of the film. It is very difficult to get to without a suggestion of staying over however time is short and it’s not the kind of place (in my opinion to do that). Getting there and back is the hard bit but Angie (our guide) and Mr Kim (our driver) made it all go very smoothly and Angie looked after our mixed group very well always making sure everyone was where they needed to be at the correct time. The itinerary was moved about to provide the best experience and we found our visit to the River Kwai Bridge was almost earliest as we made it before the mass of tourists. We then seen the war cemetery and Dearh Railway Museum (excellent and unfit for my family), followed by a train journey across the river Kwai and onward. A nice lunch with great views was then followed by Hellfire pass.

Definitely worth a visit! You can fully understand a piece of the history of the Thailand–Burma Railway during World War II. Our guide, Tong, was very friendly and offered us snacks. The driver was also great, and the vehicle was in excellent condition.

Its a great experience. Art did a great job as a guide — was able to provide relevant details and has been very friendly and considerate to the tourist. It was a smooth travel to Kanchaniburi.

Alex took us on a tour to see the death railway, museum and cemetery (hellfire pass is closed for annual maintenance 4-24may 2026)! The tour was very well planned and during the train boarding it was quite hectic due to the crowd but Alex took care of us, from helping us settle the tickets to reserving the best seats for the good views for us 🙏 We want to thank Alex for taking care of us throughout the trip

The itinerary is well planned, from Hellfire Pass to the River Kwai Bridge by train, which is a two-hour journey. You can rest, catch up on sleep, and enjoy the scenery.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Alex was an outstanding guide and made our visit to Kanchanaburi truly unforgettable. He took us to the Death Railway, the Bridge over the River Kwai, the museum, and the war cemetery before we boarded the famous train to cross the bridge. His knowledge, enthusiasm, and passion for the history of the area brought every stop to life. What really set Alex apart was how genuinely interested he was in both the history and in making sure everyone had a great experience. He was engaging, informative, and happy to answer questions throughout the day. In fact, other passengers on the train commented on how lucky we were to have such a brilliant guide, saying they were jealous because their own guides weren’t nearly as engaging or enthusiastic. If you’re visiting this area, I couldn’t recommend Alex more highly. He was, without a doubt, the best guide we could have hoped for and made the whole experience incredibly special.

Alex was an exceptional guide and made our day in Kanchanaburi one to remember. From the Death Railway and the Bridge over the River Kwai to the museum, the war cemetery, and the famous train ride across the bridge, every stop was brought to life by his knowledge and passion for the history of the area. What impressed me most was how much he genuinely cared about making sure everyone had a great experience. He was friendly, engaging, and always happy to answer questions, but he also went above and beyond in ways you don’t often see. He practically became our personal photographer for the day, always offering to take photos and making sure we came away with plenty of great memories to look back on. It meant we could simply enjoy the experience without worrying about getting the perfect shot.

Tong is an awesome tour guide. i enjoyed it. he bought us local dish n snack to try.

fabulous tour. sad to see and hear the awful things that those poor POW-S went through .Feeling a proud Australian while watching through. Hell fire section was well worth the effort of all those stairs. a small price for us conwhat they endured . must do tour . train was very enjoyable. museum was sad , but necessary to see . cemetery was very well cared for by the Thai government
