Fantastic

Solo stay

The location of this hotel is incredibly convenient as its just a 10 minute stroll down to Portobello beach which is so underrated (and long may it stay that way). The property itself is a magnificent old building with plenty of character. Staff couldnt be more helpful, whether that be reception or the leisure staff, they couldn't do enough. Will be using again for the next trip to Edinburgh

bathroom stunk to high heaven of paint. all the towels stank and the smell was awful. i think in future if yoyr decorating rooms atleast air them out afterwards. kind of ruined my experience especially as the price for the room was extortionate anyway.

We had a very comfortable 3 night stay. Our room was quiet and comfortable with all the amenities. The staff was helpful and friendly. The hotel is an easy city bus ride to the city center. Good food and drinks choices.

Fantastic

Solo stay

Room was clean and comfortable, reception staff were excellent in helping out with booking problems. Good variety of Bistro food, breakfast was ok. Best was being able to use the leisure facilities from 6.30am. Free parking on the main road was a bonus too. Nearby train for a 7min hop into Edinburgh Waverley in heart of city, so excellent location.

Great

Solo stay

The hotel is clean, with pleasant reception staff and the room featured a bath tub. There are large windows overlooking rooftops and good blackout curtains, but the decor and carpets are dated. Telephone in the room was out of order and there was no shower gel in the dispenser in the bathroom. The location directly across the street from a bus stop was very handy, so was the location of a news agent just next door when I had emergency need for a new SIM card. I really regretted not having time to use the pool, one of my main reasons for booking the hotel. I decided not to eat in the restaurant. I did sit down and was immediately asked for my order, which of course I wasn’t ready to give. I watched as many pints of beer were delivered to other tables and gave up waiting further. Seems the bar is the priority there. Given the high cost of Edinburgh hotels and the fact the room wasn’t pretty (mire if a conference room style of decor) I would choose somewhere else the next time.
