“HKPM SHOWTIME!” Series Show Introduction

Under the exclusive sponsorship of BOCHK, the museum will launch the “HKPM SHOWTIME!” series, which will run from July 2022 to June 2023. The series will present a wide range of performing arts events in the museum or online every Sunday from 3pm to 4pm, spanning music, dance and drama and performed by some of Hong Kong’s leading performing arts groups and artists.
These shows, specially tailored for HKPM, will draw on the richness of the Palace Museum’s history and the beauty of Chinese arts and culture with the aim of sparking multi-disciplinary learning and education for the benefit of the public, at the same time offering new ways to promote cultural dialogue between China and the rest of the world. Echoing the museum’s mission to provide a platform for local artists, the “HKPM SHOWTIME!” series will showcase performances from Hong Kong Ballet, Hong Kong Dance Company, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble (HKGDE), Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Hong Kong Enharmonica and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
25 June: HKPhil Dim Sum Series: String Dialogue, by Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra
With four strings and one soundbox, Western string instruments and the traditional Chinese pipa produce expressive sounds that enchant audiences across cultures. Join the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra string musicians and virtuoso guest pipa player, Gao Sijia, for a crossover performance marked by intimacy and fervour. Starting with two pieces composed for pipa and string quartet—Law Wing-fai's "Ink Spirit” and Tansy Tsai's “Suddenly”—the musical dialogue continues with short but distinctive pieces that bring out the elegance of string instruments. Closing the programme is the first movement of Dvořák’s Piano Quintet No. 2, which interweaves moments of drama, euphoria, and spontaneous dance.

18 June: Martial Arts x Dance, by Hong Kong Dance Company
A culminating work that combines Chinese dance and Chinese martial arts traditions.
The Hong Kong Dance Company explores the essence of both traditional practices, extracting new perspectives on movement and the fluidity of expression between ideology and physical gesture. Martial Arts x Dance brings these discoveries together, capturing the transient between stillness and motion, tranquillity and exuberance; all that one may find through the synergy of dance and martial arts.

This exhilarating concert takes you on a magical, musical journey through different galleries at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, exploring the innovative beauty and historical value of Chinese culture through musical notes. “Dazzling Through Time”, composed by award-winning composer Shirley Choi, will also make its debut and celebrate women’s creativity, perseverance, and influence throughout the eras.
While celebrating women's strength, resilience, and beauty, the powerful performance illuminates women’s different roles throughout history, their long path to freedom and autonomy, and their stellar contributions to dance.

30 April: HKPhil Dim Sum Series: Hymns from Her, by Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra
To celebrate the influence of women in the realm of classical music, fellows of the Orchestra Academy Hong Kong performs pieces that pay tribute to remarkable females throughout the ages. The concert features pieces either written by female composers or themed around women.
The show will start with an oboe solo of Benjamin Britten’s “Six Metamorphoses after Ovid”, followed by works by female composers like Rebecca Clarke and Fanny Mendelssohn. Join us for a memorable afternoon as we celebrate female empowerment through music!
