About the event

Movie Introduction

film-screening-wanton-mee-02

Set against the backdrop of Singapore’s ever-changing landscape, Wanton Mee (2015) explores the distance between a father and son who lead vastly different lifestyles. The son, Goh Chun Feng, is a respected food critic, although he has increasingly begun to view his job as drudgery. On the other hand, his father was a renowned chef, whose job often prevented him from spending time with his family. The only thing that bridges the void between the two men is their shared love of hawker fare.

Motivated by the announcement that the housing estate he has lived in from birth is going enbloc, our protagonist, Goh Chun Feng, sets out to document the local food and historical neighborhoods of his island home. His passion project reignites his interest in his work and allows him to connect to his incognisant father.
