Golden Gate Bridge

It is an iconic bridge with its striking Art Deco design, vibrant international orange color, and stunning engineering. As one of the most photographed bridges in the USA, Golden Gate Bridge stands as a famous landmark and symbol of San Francisco. Plus, the bridge's construction was a huge deal in history, which is why it's visited by thousands of visitors every year.

The Golden Gate Bridge stands 746 feet high above the San Francisco Bay from its test tower. The road deck is around 220 feet above the water, giving amazing views of the bay, the Pacific Ocean, and the San Francisco skyline. It's truly a sight that leaves visitors amazed.

The Golden Gate Bridge got its name from the Golden Gate Strait, the water it crosses over. Explorer John C. Frémont named the strait because of the "golden" opportunity the location provided for trade and navigation.

For the best view of the Golden Gate Bridge, go to Vista Point on the north side, or Fort Point below the south end. You can also check out Crissy Field, the Marin Headlands, and Battery Spencer. Each of these vista points gives you an amazing view of the bridge.

You can get to the Golden Gate Bridge by taking the Golden Gate Transit Bus, biking, or driving to nearby parking lots. Keep in mind that parking spots are limited and often closed to cars on weekends. We suggest using public transit or booking a guided tour to visit the bridge towers. Walking the full length of the Golden Gate Bridge usually takes about 1 to 1.5 hours for a round trip. The bridge is 1.7 miles long, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the amazing views and take some awesome pictures. When crossing, remember the bridge roadway is open to all vehicle traffic at all times.
