Rent a car in Houston
Explore Houston with Ease
Renting a car in Houston offers the convenience to explore the city's diverse attractions on your own schedule. With your own vehicle, you can easily visit the Space Center Houston, the Museum District, or take a drive to the beautiful beaches of Galveston, all at your leisure. The freedom of having a car allows for spontaneous trips and the ability to see sites that might be difficult to reach via public transportation.
Inspect Your Rental Car
Upon receiving your rental car, take the time to inspect it thoroughly for any pre-existing damage. Document any scratches, dents, or issues by taking photos or videos, and report them to the rental agency to prevent any misunderstandings when you return the vehicle. Familiarize yourself with the terms of the rental agreement, including mileage allowances, fuel policies, insurance options, and any additional fees that may apply.
Child Safety Regulations
In Houston, as in the rest of Texas, child safety seats are mandatory for young children. Rental companies typically offer child seats, but it's wise to confirm availability and whether they will be pre-installed in your vehicle. Ensuring you have the proper child restraints is not only a legal requirement but also essential for the safety of your young passengers.
Avoiding Traffic Congestion
Houston is known for its busy roads, and traffic can be heavy, particularly during rush hours. Plan your travel to avoid peak times, typically from 7 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 6 pm on weekdays. Be mindful of the traffic patterns around major areas like Downtown Houston and the Galleria, and consider using navigation apps to find the best routes and avoid congestion.
Cost-Effective Exploration
While Houston has a public transportation system, it may not be the most convenient option for reaching all destinations. Renting a car can be a more cost-effective and flexible alternative to taxis or ride-sharing services, especially if you plan to visit multiple locations or travel outside the city. Most rental cars come equipped with GPS, making it easier to navigate the expansive city and its surroundings.
Convenient Rental Locations
Houston offers several convenient locations to pick up your rental car, including George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby Airport, where you'll find a variety of rental agencies. Additionally, there are numerous rental locations throughout the city, allowing you to choose a pickup and drop-off point that best suits your travel plans.
Driving in Houston
When driving in Houston, remember that traffic flows on the right-hand side of the road. Road signs are typically clear and in English, but having a reliable navigation system can help you maneuver through the city's extensive network of freeways and roads. Be cautious of Houston's unique "feeder" roads alongside the freeways, and always adhere to local traffic laws, including the prohibition of texting while driving.

Fantastic RAV4 Toyota 7 day
Booking and picking up the car at IAH was convenient, but I needed a QR code to exit the parking lot after picking up the car. Since I didn't receive the QR code, it took the staff over 10 minutes to open the gate. The rest of the process was smooth.

Fantastic X3 Bmw 2 day
The cars are new and high-end. The X3 I booked wasn't available, so they upgraded me to a GLC-AMG. SIXT always manages to surprise me.

I rented a car from Sixt in downtown Houston and was pleasantly surprised to be upgraded from a Nissan to a Volvo. The pick-up and drop-off process was very smooth. Highly recommended.
