It’s time to put that student ID to good use!
Great news, students! The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) has announced that starting November 1, 2019, students can now redeem a 20% discount off domestic airline flights, as first reported by Inquirer.net.
The guidelines of the Republic Act No. 11314, also known as the Student Fare Discount Act, indicate that all Filipino students enrolled in any elementary, secondary, technical or vocational and higher education institutions can now enjoy the discounted privilege on domestic flights. It does not, however, cover those who are enrolled in postgraduate and “informal short-term courses” such as dancing, swimming, music, driving lessons and seminar-type courses.
This 20% discount will be calculated from the domestic flights’ regular base fare. In the event of a promo or seat-sale, students must choose between the promo rate or the regular fare, as the discount can only be applied to the latter. This is mandated by the R.A. 11314, which President Rodrigo Duterte signed last July 2019.
In order for the student to use the 20% off discount, they must present the following requirements:
- Valid school ID
- Validated enrollment form
- Birth certificate or latest school record or naturalization certificate or passport
