    The COVID-19 pandemic has, sourly put, ruined all our vacation plans for the foreseeable future. With physical travel put on hold for the time being, people are resorting to travel throwbacks, virtual travel experiences and most recently - travelling via Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

    The viral Nintendo game has kept millions of people busy - from fishing and planting trees all the way to creating their own island. Not only is it probably the most you'll experience of the ‘outside world’ during this time, but its user-friendly interface and adorable characters definitely make the game all the more addicting.

    ‘Dodo Airlines’ is a new feature on the Animal Crossing series, appearing for the first time in the latest update, Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The feature allows Animal Crossing users to travel to mystery islands, other player’s islands via online play, and now, they’ll be able to travel to Singapore’s Sentosa Island too.

    Sentosa Island is said to be the first real world destination on Animal Crossing, and it only took 22 designers and 12 days to recreate the popular tourist attraction. This is perfect for those who might’ve had plans to fly to Singapore, anyone who wants to relive their Sentosa memories, or really, anybody itching to travel.

    The virtual Sentosa Island features many of the actual island’s famed activities and attractions. Throughout the island, you’ll find beach bars, nature trails, the Shangri-La and Capella Hotels, virtual spas, the Skyline Luge, and even a yoga class by the beach!

    Once you arrive on Sentosa Island via Dodo Airlines, you will be escorted by a Sentosa Island staff through the island. You'll even be provided with Animal Crossing freebies and Sentosa merch you’ll want to take back home to your island!

    What you need to know to visit Singapore’s Sentosa Island

    However, as it is a Nintendo Switch game, you will need an Nintendo Switch or Switch Lite to visit, and as well as an Nintendo online subscription apart from the game itself. To visit, you will need to register via an official form, and select your desired time slot. There are only 36 slots available daily, 30 minutes each, with a 4-person limit per session. 
    Once you’ve filled up the form, you will be contacted via email if you have been shortlisted for your desired time slot. In the event that you are invited, you must show up on time, no later than 10 minutes past the schedule or your slot will be forfeited.
    Other reminders from the creators of Sentosa Island:
    1. Only leave through the island airport. Ending the session will end the experience for everyone in your time slot. 
    2. Do not pluck or trample on the flowers
    3. Do not shake trees for fruits
    4. Do not hit other people with nets
    5. Do not ruin other people’s selfies!
