Good to know
- Sumo stables are not tourist facilities. Sumo practice is a serious competitive activity. Please participate with the understanding that spectators have strict rules. If you disrespect the master or wrestlers and do not follow the rules, you may be asked to leave and will not be allowed to re-enter or receive a refund. Please do not enter the sumo ring without permission. Take off your shoes and sit cross-legged on the tatami mats. Avoid pointing your feet towards the ring, as this is considered disrespectful. Please do not stand on the wrestling ring or sandy area. The wrestling ring is a sacred place reserved for wrestlers only. Please do not eat or smoke in the sumo ring (water, tea, or sports drinks are allowed when the weather is hot). During practice, please observe quietly and avoid unnecessary movement indoors. Practice time is usually 1 - 2 hours. Please turn off your mobile phone and avoid making calls during observation. Book in advance to ensure a spot. Due to the limited availability for sumo training, be sure to book in advance to ensure you can participate in this unique experience!
Prepare early and arrive on time. Sumo training usually starts early in the morning, so please make sure you arrive at the dojo on time to avoid missing the exciting training sessions!
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. When attending the viewing, it is recommended to wear comfortable clothes and shoes to facilitate your movement within the dojo and experience the atmosphere of training! 👟
Maintain silence and respect. Sumo is a traditional culture. During training, please remain quiet, do not disturb the wrestlers’ training, and respect their focus and effort.
Bring a camera to capture wonderful moments. This is a great place to photograph sumo training! Remember to bring your camera to capture those shocking moments and leave you with wonderful memories!
Pay attention to rest and hydration. Morning training can sometimes be intense, so please ensure you stay hydrated, avoid fatigue, and enjoy this unique experience!
Understand the cultural background of sumo. Before the activity, you can briefly familiarize yourself with the basic knowledge of sumo to increase your interest and understanding during the observation!
