What to expect
Opened on 22 November 2025, this stunning new museum on Saadiyat Cultural District in Abu Dhabi spans 35,000 m², making it the largest natural history museum of its kind in the region. Step into an immersive journey across 13.8 billion years of life on Earth from the Big Bang and the formation of our solar system, through the evolution of dinosaurs and the rich biodiversity of today, and into thinking about the planet’s future. Key exhibits include “Stan”, a nearly complete 11-metre-tall Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton, a 25-metre female blue whale specimen, and the ancient Murchison Meteorite with grains older than our solar system. Galleries such as The Story of Earth, The Evolving World, Our World, Resilient Planet, and Earth’s Future anchor the visitor experience, all designed through an “Arabian lens” that highlights the fauna, flora and geological past of the Arabian Peninsula. Architecturally conceived by Mecanoo, the building itself takes cues from natural rock formations you engage with nature before you even walk in. Families, school groups and museum-lovers will find interactive zones, immersive theatres, and a full research programme behind the scenes so consider this both a day out and a learning excursion
