Fukuoka Traditional Chochin Lantern Painting Experience

What to expect
Experience the charm of Japanese lantern painting at Kadota Lantern Shop, just steps from Nakasu-Kawabata Station in central Fukuoka. Guided by skilled artisans, you’ll paint your own design on a traditional paper lantern using brushes and colors. This hands-on workshop is perfect for all ages, and your finished lantern will be carefully boxed as a special keepsake to take home.
Choose between: ① Mini Chochin Lantern: Size: 25 cm × 12 cm (Box size: 15 cm × 12 cm × 6 cm) / 1~1.5 hrs) ② Traditional Festival Lantern: Size: 50 cm × 22 cm (Box size: 35 cm × 22 cm × 13 cm, Weight: 420g / 1~2 hrs)
Open daily 11:00–17:00 (closed on irregular Sundays and Aug 15–20). International visitors are warmly welcomed, with easy, gesture-based assistance available.

- Minimum of 1 and maximum of 5 participants (contact us for groups larger than 5).
- During the summer season, participation is limited to a maximum of 4 people.
- The experience is conducted in Japanese only.
- Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your reserved time.
- If you will be late or unable to attend, please contact us in advance.
- Smoking is prohibited inside the facility.
- As paints are used, please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a little stained.
