What to expect

Cloisonné is a traditional decorative art form that perfectly blends exquisite craftsmanship with vibrant enamel colors. Originating in the Yuan Dynasty and flourishing in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, this technique has been used to create breathtaking works of art, encompassing everything from vases and bowls to jewelry and ceremonial objects.

The creation of cloisonné begins with the meticulous bending of fine metal wires (usually made of copper or gold) to form intricate patterns. These wires are affixed to a metal base, creating small compartments, or "cloisons." Subsequently, these cloisons are filled with colored enamel paste and fired at high temperatures, ultimately resulting in a smooth, glass-like surface with a brilliant polished finish.

About the Workshop: This course aims to introduce this traditional Chinese art form, providing participants with a hands-on experience that showcases the beauty and ingenuity of cloisonné, experiencing the art of cloisonné in a simplified and easy-to-understand manner (using non-firing glaze). In this workshop, you will learn about the materials and techniques used in this ancient craft, with a particular focus on how to fill cloisonné with vibrantly colored enamel powders.
