What to expect
SingaPop! is an immersive multimedia exhibition celebrating Singapore’s vibrant pop culture journey over 60 years. Curated by cultural icon Dick Lee, the exhibition tells the story of how a young nation of diverse immigrants forged a unique identity that is distinctly Singaporean.
Since gaining independence in 1965, Singapore has defined itself as a multicultural society comprising Chinese, Malay, Indian, Eurasian, and other communities. The exhibition's five chapters explores how these influences have blended into a shared identity—one rich in heritage and creativity that is sometimes referred to as the ‘rojak spirit’—an unmistakable embracing of differences to create something unique.
SingaPop! brings to life the evolution of Singapore’s everyday culture— from hawker centres to music, film, fashion, Singlish and annual National Day Parades. What began humbly now represents Singapore on a global stage.
This exhibition is a joyful celebration of life, SingaPop! asks visitors to reflect on what makes Singapore so unique. The answer is simple: the people, stories and traditions that bind us and continuing to shape the place we call home.
SingaPop! is presented by ArtScience Museum, and mm2 Entertainment, and supported by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA)
