What to expect
The Kaichi School is a pseudo-Western-style school building that was completed in April Meiji 9 (1876) as a new school building for the Kaichi School, which opened in May Meiji 6 (1873). It was used as a school building until 1963 (Showa 38), after which it was relocated and restored to its current location and became a museum. The school building was evaluated as a unique and original structure that conveys the state of civilization and enlightenment, and as a building that symbolizes schools in the early dawn of the modern era, and in 2019 (Reiwa 1), it was the first modern school building to be designated as a national treasure. Inside the museum, the attractions of the national treasure school building are introduced, and historical educational materials from the Kaichi School are exhibited.
