Below average My room was infested with bedbugs. Bad smell in the air, clearly not cleaned or maintained properly. Haven't been able to contact management for a refund in 3 days. Avoid.

Great value for money! Walking distance to all the sights and canals.

It was a small room with single bunk beds and a very small TV. The room had obviously just been cleaned when I arrived as the hard floor was still wet and took a while to dry. There was no air-conditioning and, during a heatwave, the fan provided was not really sufficient. The lighting in the room was also very poor and it would be impossible to work or read after dark except inside the bunk beds which had their own lights.
That said, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the location of the hotel is a short walk from the canals and central district.

Great hotel staff helpful and friendly. Only thing was the noise we were in the room by the door so heard people coming and going and a lot of chatting until the early hours on our first night. But otherwise the hotel was fab couldn’t fault it.

This is a well-located hotel but I was staying in a less than optimally located room, right next to a very loud elevator. Otherwise, the stay was fine.

Maybe not as bad as some reviews but still not great.
For me, the main use of a hotel is to SLEEP. We had no sleep here. Our room was on the first floor at the front of the hotel on a street with cafes. We couldn't keep the windows open for all the noise an cigarette smoke. Next to our room was the "front desk", just an open space for the staff to hang out in. All night we had to hear the comings and goings of other guests and the staff chatting to each other. At one point I had to get out of bed and ask them to keep their voices down so we could sleep.
There is no ventilation or air circulation. If you take a shower it turns the room into a sauna. I asked for a fan but was told it was "only for staff". I guess it's more important for the staff to be comfortable than the paying guests.
Typical European shower, not enclosed, got the whole bathroom wet, and water an out the door and onto the floor of the main room.
Way too expensive for what you get.

Things i expected: Small room as a single traveller, steep stairs - the norm for Amsterdam.
Things i didnt expect : Room 9 is next to the slowest and nosiest lift in Amsterdam and of course guests are going to use it late into the night to avoid the steep stairs.
Tiny bathroom ok. But power shower shouldn't leak all over bathroom floor and into small bedroom.
Additional charge if you want room serviced. I expected as a minimum a clean room but wasnt great.
Suggestions : Maybe some carpet on stairs, if allowed, to damped noise. A proper reception area. Change shower screens so enclosed.
Positives : location for museum area and park and bus too and from airport.
Negatives: Needs to be cleaner, more welcoming. No tourist information available ( only a free map on a table ).

I don’t understand the poor reviews. This is Amsterdam, and Sara’s B is a budget hotel. Clean, basic, good location. This isn’t De L’ Europa. I was very happy with this being a new option for my stays. I must have been to 10 hotels over 20 yrs in AMS. The value here is good. If you want better, you’ll pay for it. Whatever the case, I’ve already booked my next reservation there for 3 weeks away.
