The activity will start with a visit to a local market where you’ll get to shop like a local and pick the freshest ingredients by yourself! You’ll also stop by a rice paddy and learn about the culture and culinary history of Ubud. The class will take place in a local Balinese home where you’ll be guided by an English-speaking Indonesian chef. After your hard work, enjoy your Balinese dishes and take some of them home!
Wayan took us to the market and showed us some of the ingredients used in Balinese cooking. A very rich experience. We also got to try some local pancakes and fruits.
The class was also very fun. You get to do the fun stuff and the repetitive and hard work such as pounding to finish was done by their experienced team.
I would highly recommend this class to anyone who are looking to experience and learn traditional Balinese cooking in Ubud. I'm super impressed by the professionalism of all the staff, from coordinating the transfer pick up from our accommodation to this beautiful resort for the class to receiving the photos and video promptly next day after the class. Upon arriving the resort, me and my friends were greeted by a delicious refreshing welcome drink before starting our cooking class beside the pool area overseeing the breathtaking view of the greenery. For noob home cooks, fret not! We were well-guided by a really patient and friendly chef and successful whipped up 4 dishes that tasted out of a 5-star resort restaurant. Additionally, not to mention our funny and bubbly photographer (Made) whom constantly telling us jokes and sharing more about the Balinese culture to make this cooking experience a even more fruitful and memorable one. I'm already planning a next trip to Bali and will surely stay with them when I'm in Ubud. This resort and their staff have truly showed me the real hospitality.
Free pick up and drop off from our Ubud hotel. Do drop the guy a message via WhatsApp to arrange the transport. Lovely class conducted by his father. There was 17 people, we were split into a smaller group of 6. We got to hands on preparing the ingredients and pounding the spices, cooking and kneading. It’s a good experience to learn about Balinese culture through their food. The food cooked was really tasty. You get to bring home the printed recipes after the class. The visit to the market was lovely too, get to see a different and very local part of Ubud countryside.
THE HIGHLIGHT OF MY BALI TOUR!
I never thought my heart.. and my stomach would be this happy after my Bali trip! I traveled alone, and made my itinerary as relaxing as possible. I enjoyed my 1 week vacation at the "island of gods" and this cooking class was the main event!
The family who accommodated us for this fun activity warmly welcomed us in their house/kitchen. It was nice experiencing all these first-hand! We went to a rice field and a local market, and our tour guide who was also our cooking teacher, shared to us a lot of information about the Balinese culture, traditions, and cuisine.
He introduced to us important ingredients/spices that are present in almost every Indonesian dish. I've got to see, smell, and taste them. His way of teaching us made me feel that cooking these dishes is simple and easy, and can be done at home.
After cooking, we ate together like a family.. the father of the house was sweet, he even packed us the food left, so we have "take-aways". Hahaha!
It was a fun, informative, and amazing experience! Terima kasih!
We had an awesome time and experience learning how to cook authentic Balinese food! The Chef was very patient and guided us from the preparation till the cooking. There was also another IT guy from the resort (Mr Made) who helped us took photos and video of the entire process. He was also very entertaining and we had a good time exchanging our own culture. After we were done with cooking, we got to enjoy our lunch at a gazebo specially reserved by the resort. Lastly, we even received a cooking certificate and recipe of the food dishes that we made which was really an unexpected surprise. Would definitely recommend this cooking class program! :)
A must-do in Seminyak. The market tour was great and discovered a lot of new fruit and veg. Be prepared to take notes - chef Komang had some useful tips to share.
The actual cooking class was great fun. It’s a group class where everyone gets to take part and share responsibilities and lead certain steps. Chef Komang also jumps in to taste test seasoning etc so it is perfect so that, even if you’re not a great cook (which I certainly am not) you still get to eat a delicious meal at the end. We had two vegans in our group and chef Komang and the team at Nia were very accommodating in explaining how to turn his recipes into vegan meals and ensuring they had ample vegan adaptations to cook too.
Best Mie Goreng I have eaten in Bali and we cooked it ourselves (...with great guidance!) :). I’d do it again, would recommend it to any one who comes here and would 100% eat here for dinner even if I couldn’t make the class.
