About the event

Discover the artistry of Beibei Wang, a distinguished percussionist, in her masterclass at the 7th TICAFEST, where she serves as Festival Artistic Director. In the masterclass, she will personally provide individual coaching for the participating students, culminating in a collective improvisation performance.

Renowned as a versatile artist in both classical and traditional Chinese percussion, Wang maintains a longstanding creative collaboration with Oscar-winning composer Tan Dun. A seasoned performer, Wang performed with BBC Symphony Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, etc, in BBC Proms, Royal Albert Hall, amongst others. She also engages in sound-science-society initiatives in partnership with Rubbish Music. Her works are published by Mute Song Publishing, and she serves as faculty member teaching Chinese percussion at SOAS, University of London. 

Programme details

Short solo performance by Beibei Wang to open a shared listening space, followed by a short lecture on percussion as a collaborative, evolving practice, with short examples of innovative works and graphic scores.

Two to three demonstration pupils will be selected for masterclass sessions with Beibei Wang.

A group improvisation session to end the programme.

Ticketing details

Demonstration pupil: $350 (Please see above for application method)

Audience member (standard): $150

Half-priced concesionary tickets available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, CSSA recipients, people with disability with one minder, or full-time students

Admission remarks

  • Each ticket only admits one person
  • For ages 6 or above
  • Unauthorised photography, audio, and video recording are prohibited
  • Smoking, eating, and drinking are not allowed inside the auditorium
  • Late-comers will not be admitted until a suitable break
  • Ticket holders are requested to comply with all other house rules posted at the admission point
  • Toolbox Percussion Limited reserves full authority on final arbitration in case of disputes
