Landscape Conformation - Contemporary Art Group Exhibition Information

Neptune Gallery will host the "Landscape Conformation - Contemporary Art Group Exhibition" this summer. Featuring seven artists, the exhibition will showcase photography, video, graphic painting, and three-dimensional installations, expanding individual interpretations of landscape constructs.
In human history, the term "landscape" has consistently symbolized the relationship between humans and nature. Its definition has evolved over different periods in response to varying epistemological and aesthetic ideas, and it has continually been represented through diverse technologies and media. Optical devices used to depict nature, such as the Claude mirror, which renders picturesque landscapes, or the camera obscura for observing scenes, are examples of this representation. Architectural spaces designed to interact with the environment, like observation decks and gardens, also attempt to transform nature into a replicable, frameable, or consumable state. However, landscapes often reveal a subtle and contingent essence of perception that is difficult to articulate. For instance, the blurred scenery from afar or the skewed light in a space—these variations presented by the world are always in a state of flux and ongoing dynamic change. In this sense, the so-called landscape is not perceived as a static, unchanging entity; rather, it exists as a place temporarily formed by the convergence of past and present, perception, and memory. Therefore, the issue of landscape involves complex connections between material-perception and individual-culture, and the creation and experience of landscapes continually reshape our mode of existence.
The exhibition "Landscapes as Constructs" brings together seven artists working in various media, including photography, painting, sculptural installations, and video. Through their engagement with aspects such as perceptual space, memory forms, and temporality, these artists explore the concept of "landscape" as a question of external reality, technical materiality, and personal consciousness. Philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty discussed the connection between subject and world, stating: "My perception is not a sum of facts like sight, touch, hearing, etc.: I perceive with my entire existence in a complete manner; I grasp the unique structure of things, a unique mode of existence that simultaneously dialogues with all my senses." Guided by this concept, the works in the exhibition do not merely represent aspects of the world through specific media forms but instead create an open "construct," not functioning through mechanical apparatuses, but generating an organic field between the individual and reality, offering a stance towards the emergence of things. This exhibition seeks to reflect on the perceptual states between media and apparatuses, responding to how contemporary bodies are inserted into the production and consumption of "landscapes" by technology, and exploring through the relationships in the works how the world is mirrored in the unstable, latent diversity of personal consciousness. "Landscapes as Constructs" transforms the exhibition space into a perceptual construct through the extension of objects, installations, and images, creating an alternative position for viewing things.
