A Heavenly Evening of Celestial Strings
The Festival Strings Lucerne is one of the most distinguished chamber orchestras in the world, and the Hong Kong audience is in for a treat when the ensemble makes a return to the HKAF in 2024. Fuelled by a glorious performance tradition and youthful dynamism, the Festival Strings Lucerne has developed a unique sound by drawing continued inspiration from the legendary instruments fashioned by Stradivari, Guarneri and Amati. Under the artistic direction and leadership of the incomparable violinist Daniel Dodds, the Festival Strings Lucerne has become a true cultural ambassador. Collaborations with musical superstars past and present, and premiere performances and recordings of more than 100 compositions, have resulted in worldwide acclaim.
Japanese violin sensation Akiko Suwanai became the youngest-ever winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1990. Since then she has enjoyed a flourishing international career and appears regularly with celebrated maestros and leading orchestras across the globe. Suwanai will feature in Violin Concerto No 5 by Vieuxtemps, a work famous for its brilliant solo violin part. Her stellar performance will be framed by Prokofiev's earliest and most popular symphony, nicknamed “Classical”, and the exciting Caprice for Orchestra No 4 by Swiss composer Richard Dubugnon. Also on the programme is Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony, a work ranked among the greatest compositions in classical music.
