From the Other Side (of the Fence) | Concert Introduction

'From the Other Side (of the Fence)' invites the listener to experience César Franck's 'Sonata in A Major for violin and piano' (arr. Patrick Loiseleur), Robert Schumann's 'Widmung' (Dedication) and Eric Coates' 'First Meeting' (Souvenir) coupled with original writings inspired by the evening's programme. Featuring poems and a short story by Agnes Goh, Debbie Leong, Upneet Kaur-Nagpal and Tan Yu Xin respectively, the music will be performed live by Shayna Yap (piano) and Jeremy Chiew (viola), circling around the issues of everyday life and love - "what happens after Valentines' Day?" In producing this recital Jeremy briefly considered naming the in 'NOT a Valentine's Day Concert' while ironically presenting lovely music (both the Sonata and Dedication were wedding gifts!) but all seriousness, 'From the Other Side of the Fence' serves also as a continuation of his annual viola recitals where he showcases the viola under different lights.
