We took the cable car on the way up. (You can either transfer to a larger cable car partway up to reach the summit, or hike the rest of the way. The hike from the mid-station takes about 2 hours.) For the descent, we used the railway train. It was convenient and straightforward as no ticket exchange was needed. You just scan the QR code at the machine for immediate entry.

The Mount Pilatus Golden Round Trip was absolutely incredible and one of the best experiences of our Switzerland trip! We did the route in the opposite direction—starting with the cable car up to Mount Pilatus, then taking the world's steepest cogwheel railway down to Alpnachstad, before ending with a relaxing boat cruise back to Lucerne. It was the perfect way to experience the mountain. The views from the summit were breathtaking, with stunning panoramic scenery everywhere we looked. The cable car ride, cogwheel train, and boat cruise each offered a completely different perspective, making the entire journey exciting from start to finish. Everything was well organised, smooth, and easy to navigate. The boat ride back to Lucerne was especially peaceful and a beautiful way to end the day after exploring the mountain. We absolutely loved the entire experience! It was worth every penny and is truly a must-do attraction in Switzerland!

Very glad I got tickets ahead of time using Klook! Very easy to use on the app and I saved to my apple wallet, which was good because I didn’t have service while boarding the gondola (later found out there was wifi on the way down). Beautiful experience, and I would suggest setting aside at least 3 hours for it.
