Absolutely recommended. You learn some things about the art, like bowing, what to say and how to handle a sword and how to safely pass the word over. You receive a demo and get to practice before you yourself get to try. You also get to gear up. I am usually a size 16 - 18 women's or L - XL.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An Unforgettable Samurai Experience in Tokyo! We had an amazing time at the Samurai Cutting Experience in Tokyo! Our instructor, Sir Gensei, was incredibly kind, patient, and funny. He taught us the basics of samurai movements and made the whole session engaging and enjoyable, even for beginners. The highlight was getting to cut through a tatami mat with a real, 100-year-old katana—such a thrilling and unique experience! We also got dressed in traditional samurai clothing, which made it even more immersive. Plus, we were allowed to take plenty of photos throughout, which was perfect for capturing memories. This was truly a fun and memorable activity. I’d definitely do it again and highly recommend it to anyone—especially travelers and foreigners—who want to feel like a samurai for an hour. A must-try experience in Tokyo
Highly recommended, especially if you've always wanted to try cutting with a real japanese sword. The instructors were very enthusiastic, and helpful in correcting the stance and swing. It would be good to have some more time for pictures with the hakama rental though.
A great experience, lots of information shared. All the instructors and sensei were kind, supportive and extremely knowledgeable. A great way to understand a Japanese tradition. Very authentic and would recommend as the one to do over others.
An absolutely memorable experience especially for people who want to immerse in the Japanese culture. Sensei demonstrated the art masterfully. Everyone was very friendly and knows how to teach the basics really well. Definitely recommend!
It was a very fun and informative lesson, led by a professional and humorous teacher along with polite and helpful staff. Every step was walked through and we had ample practice to perform the moves taught properly. The teacher also was very engaging after the lesson regarding any additional questions. The green suit of armor is the teachers personal armor, which is pretty cool. The katanas used for cutting the tatami mats are also 100+ years old, so it was an honor to hold a piece of history.
Would highly recommend. well organised and structured lesson. Sensei paced the lesson and all eight participants successfully cut the tatami mats! was great to watch the skill in action.
The staff and instructors are very welcoming and provide highly professional instruction. It was a pleasant experience and I got to experience Bushido.
The experience was amazing! We got to wear hakamas and practice cutting through rolled tatami mats. We were taught basic terminology and sword techniques. The experience got us all fired up to keep going. While I might feel the experience was short. It might be because I was inspired to learn more about kenjutsu. Especially after an impressive display of skill by the instructor. I would recommend to try the experience at least once.
Unique experience, definitely worth booking! Very cool. A little off the beaten track, but near a subway. Had demonstrations, tuition, a practice, then the cutting. It was recorded and sent on a link via instagram after. The group was larger than expected, took a little time to get round everyone. May not be for you if you don't like other people watching you have a go.
