What to expect

Walk through behind-the-scenes to our local bread factory and a good old fashion coffee roast factory.

Our highly sought after factory tour of good old fashion local coffee roasting. This tour brings you to one of few remaining local coffee roasters in a nondescript neighbourhood that even locals take for granted. Here, you will learn about the coffee beans, where they are from, roasting techniques that is unique to this part of the world, coffee secrets, optimum brewing temperature, but more importantly, the Natives or heroes that is behind this factory.

The minute you approach, the strong and fragrant aroma of coffee hits you and depending on the time of day, you get to see the different stages of roasting and preparation of the finished product. Here, the ‘uncles’ of the factory speak no English but rather a dialect. They allow you to touch the beans, sample some coffee of course and if they really like you, allow you to rake to cool the piping hot coffee beans!

Just as popular, is our visit to a local bread factory where only five remain. The tour gives you a behind-the-scenes walk through to explain this oldie but goodie and why these are different from the mass produced bread off the shelves. If you love old retro stuff that is fast going out of fashion, you will love to see the old equipment and wooden boards still used at old factories like these.

Sample some freshly baked bread while you're at visiting!

I usually go to Singapore without a tour. However I decided to give this tour a go when I read that it tackled the dying industries in Singapore. The tour was raw, honest, and an eye-opener. Andros the tour guide gave us insights I would never get from books nor even from the locals I personally know. I highly recommend that one should take this tour. It is an honest to goodness interesting experience.

Our guide Helen was very knowledgeable and made the tour fun by adding in quizzes then following up with in-depth information. I felt like we learnt a lot during the tour. What I also liked about the tour is that they started the trip with a local breakfast with coffee and bread from the places we were about to visit. Helen was considerate and offered my daughter Milo instead so that she feels included even though she cannot have coffee because of the caffeine content. The length of the tour was just right and I highly recommend the tour as a fun thing to do.

I have learnt and appreciate more of our local kopi and local bread makers from this tour. Tasted one of the best kopi and hainanese bread in my life, a bit sad to think that these trades are disappearing within my generation. Enjoy while they are still around!

Personally dont feel that this tour is worth what it costs. It is really just a quick walk around itinerary; there is no hands on component. The guide does not offer much additional insight other than translating what the shop owners say and helping to facilitate questions only when attendees ask.

Reply from Klook

Thank you for choosing Klook and taking the time to leave us a review! We are very sorry you feel this way. We value your feedback and we are sorry that you do not feel it was worth what it costs. Thank you also for providing us with specifics so that we know where we fell short and if there are any gaps that we can close going forward. One of the things you mentioned was the lack of hands-on components. And you are right. When we designed this, there were two hands-on segments. However, due to COVID-19 where we try to minimize contact between guests. So to circumvent not entering the inside of the factory, the guides are given permission to bring out the pre-roasted beans and corn to show the guests. This is not just for this tour but also all tours that involve consumption of food or drink as per the guidelines of Safe Measurement practices. We appreciate your insight and we hope that on your next trip, we can bring you a pleasant experience, and sincerely thank you for your understanding.
