Guide

  • Sixi Yancun is located in Sikou Town, Wuyuan County, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province. It is composed of two adjacent villages, Sixi and Yancun, and is one of the classic scenic spots on the northern tourist route of Wuyuan. Founded in the Southern Song Dynasty, it is an important birthplace and preservation area of Huizhou merchant culture in Wuyuan. More than a hundred ancient residential buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties are still preserved in the village. Most of these buildings were built by the prosperous Huizhou merchants of that era, renowned for their exquisite "three carvings" (wood carving, stone carving, and brick carving) craftsmanship, earning them the reputation of "the first village of Confucian merchants".
  • As visitors stroll through Sixi Yancun, the most striking sights are the century-old houses with their carved beams and painted rafters. Whether it's the breathtaking ninety-six "Shou" (longevity) characters in different calligraphic styles carved in wood in the Baishou Huating (Hall of Hundred Longevities), or the quaint courtyards that have served as filming locations for classic movies and TV shows, every detail tells the story of the past glory and elegance of Huizhou merchants. The outskirts of the village offer a tranquil pastoral landscape, with the clear Sixi River winding through it. Single-plank bridges, bluestone slabs, black tiles, and white walls are perfectly intertwined with the surrounding green mountains and clear waters, forming a magnificent scroll of a Jiangnan water town.
  • Every spring, large fields of rapeseed flowers bloom around the ancient village, adorning it like a painting and attracting countless photography enthusiasts and sketching groups. Whether you want to delve into the art of Huizhou architecture and the historical culture of Huizhou merchants, or simply wish to experience the passage of time and the tranquility of rural life in a peaceful ancient village, Sixi Yancun can offer you a slow travel experience rich in poetry and cultural heritage.
