  • The highland bus route has many curves which sometimes causes car sickness. Please inform the driver if you or other passengers are feeling ill
  • Due to the rapid change in altitude when going to the highest point of Murodo (at 2,450 m), some may experience altitude sickness. Please drink small amounts of water throughout the trip to prevent altitude sickness
  • Those who are especially prone to travel sickness are recommended to take anti-motion sickness medication before boarding

Insider Tips:

  • Booking earlier schedules is recommended on crowded days such as weekends
  • The Alpine Route’s Murodo is located at 2,450m above sea level, a difference in altitude of about 2,000m from the Takayama area. The weather may change drastically so please consider this when selecting your clothing
  • From Apr to mid-May and mid-Oct to Nov, the daily high temperature is less than 5 degrees celsius, so please bring warm winter clothing
  • Please bring a windbreaker or other jackets to protect yourself against the cold wind. Due to the large difference in temperatures, a jacket that can be put on and taken off easily as well as other adjustable clothing are recommended
  • Hats and sunglasses are also recommended as the sunlight in the highlands can be harsh
  • The weather in the mountains is unpredictable, so please bring rain gear (preferably a rain coat instead of an umbrella)
  • Please wear comfortable walking shoes
  • In order to board the 6:55pm bus from Toyama Station, it is recommended to reach Murodo around 2:00pm. From Murodo, transportation flows continually to Bijodaira, Tateyama Station, and Toyama Station
  • At the latest, participants should take the 3:40pm Takayama Highland Bus from Murodo, the 4:30pm cable car from Bijodaira, and the 5:25pm train from Tateyama to reach Toyama in time for the bus departing at 6:55pm
  • For participants who miss the last bus, transportation to Takayama is possible by using the JR Takayama Main Line (JPY1,660/adult, approximately 1 hour 52 minutes travel time)

In advance, go to the Xiangfei Bus Center next to the mountain to exchange the comprehensive ticket. The local staff clearly explained the order and timetable of each ticket, so that the user can arrange the time for the Kurobe to stand up. At about 6 pm, I will arrive at the bus in Toyama on time. For those who do not stay in Toyama, or who are self-driving, this set of tickets is really easy to use.
