I visited the Longqing Gorge Ice Festival on the second day of its opening, and it was a dazzling winter spectacle. Towering ice sculptures shimmered in soft lights, the gorge felt magical, and the pathways were well-organised despite the early crowds. The crisp air, frozen waterfalls, and playful artistry made the experience feel both grand and intimate, and photos barely do it justice. Our guide, Jimmy, elevated the day in every way. He was friendly and genuinely kind, checking in often and keeping us comfortable. Jimmy reminded us to dress warmly, pace ourselves, and shared fascinating local knowledge and stories that brought much fun to our trip. Our guide, Lily, was incredibly kind and knowledgeable, she shared so many interesting stories about Beijing’s rich history and culture. The Longqing Gorge was absolutely stunning, and Lily made sure we stayed warm by providing heated pads and checking in on us throughout the evening. She really took great care of us! I'm grateful to tour guide Jack and driver Master Tian Wei for their thoughtful arrangements. I visited the Ming Tombs in the Valley of Chinese Emperors, walked along the Sacred Way, and entered the underground palace of Emperor Shenzong of Ming. In the evening, I went to the spectacular Longqing Gorge Ice Lantern Festival. We were given a private, chauffeured tour of the classic Great Wall and the hidden gem of the Snow Festival. The snow sculptures here are inside a building (at the bottom of a dam?), so the enchanting light-up display is fascinating even during the day.
