The main building was designed by Academician Zhang Jinqiu, taking the concept of a round sky and square earth and drawing on the layout of the Mingtang. The central circular hall is matched with a circular pyramidal roof and four corner pavilions, echoing the surrounding landscape in both ancient and modern ways.
- Rich and Diverse Displays and Exhibitions The basic display, “The Myriad Aspects of the Imperial Capital,” showcases the ancient city’s style, while “Ancient Capital of a Thousand Years” traces the urban development of Xi’an. Special exhibitions involve calligraphy, painting, Buddhist statues, jade, etc., as well as occasional temporary exhibitions, such as “Living Happily in Chang’an,” which comprehensively present historical and cultural elements.
- Invaluable and Precious Collections The museum houses treasures such as the Tang Sancai Flying Horse, Gold-Framed Jewel-Inlaid Gold Flower Ornament, Qin Cloud-Patterned High-Stem Jade Cup, and Gilded Amitabha Buddha Statue Made by Dong Qin. Their unique craftsmanship, exquisite shapes, and profound historical and cultural value make them rare treasures.
- Historically Significant Site with Profound Heritage The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is the Buddhist pagoda of Jianfu Temple, with a history of more than 1300 years. It is a representative of the Tang Dynasty’s close-eaved brick pagodas, witnessing the cultural exchange of the Silk Road. It is known as “Yan Pagoda Morning Bell” together with the ancient clock of Jianfu Temple. The Ming and Qing architectural area in the temple retains the Ming Dynasty layout, and the halls on the central axis carry a rich history.

- Opening Hours: The venue is open from 09:00 to 17:30, with ticket sales ending and last entry at 16:30. Closed every Tuesday (except for national statutory holidays).
- Respectful Visit: Please maintain silence during your visit and refrain from loud talking, chasing, or playing. The use of flash photography, selfie sticks, and tripods is prohibited in the exhibition halls. Setting up easels and all types of live streaming, recording, or surreptitious photography that disrupts normal visiting order are prohibited. Please do not sit, lean, lie, or stand on display cases or auxiliary exhibits. Please do not damage the facilities within the museum.
- Prohibited Items: To ensure the safety of cultural relics, visitors, exhibition display equipment, and service facilities, the following items are prohibited: firearms, military or police equipment (including major components) and imitations; flammable and explosive materials such as explosives, fireworks, firecrackers, alcohol, gasoline, etc.; toxic and hazardous materials such as mercury, highly toxic pesticides, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, etc.; controlled knives and other sharp or blunt instruments other than controlled knives; large packages and suitcases exceeding 20 inches in size.
