What to expect
Ayutthaya, the second capital city of Siam and a prosperous international trading port. The ruins of the old city now form the Ayutthaya Historical Park, an archaeological site that contains palaces, Buddhist temples, monasteries and statues.
Visit Wat Mahathat, a royal monastery with a Buddha statue enshrined in a stupa through work Jinshin sarira.
Head to Wat Lokayasutharam, located behind the Royal Palace, to see the 42m giant reclining Buddha statue.
Take a long tail boat in Pasak River. (For safety reasons, night operation is not operated, Boat times may change depending on the season there is.)
See Wat Chaiwatthanaram, a Khmer style temple built by King Phrasat for his mother. Said to have been built as a model of Angkor Wat.
Have lunch at Ayutthaya Floating Market, where small meals are cooked on boats
Visit the "temple of the Earth", Wat Lokaya Sutha, and see the 42 meter long Reclining Buddha image
Take photos of the Buddha head, embedded into a tree trunk
Explore the Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, which served as a model for the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok
