Was good to be able to sleep comfortably through the trip. The snacks were alright. But the coffee cups were dirty, one cup still had old water at the bottom. And although they provided coffee sachets, there was no hot water. In the morning someone came round selling hot coffee, which was a tiny paper cup with instant coffee for 50,000vnd.
As first time sleeper train travellers, the Laman Express from Ninh Binh to Hue was much better than we expected. Kris was lovely, showing us to our berth and keeping us well informed throughout the journey, including when to disembark. We received a light breakfast box and a bottle of water, and Kris also offered a welcome drink, I happily accepted a beer. I found the bed quite hard and woke a quite few times, but I’m not a great sleeper. My husband slept much better. The toilets were clean throughout the journey and the train itself was comfortable and well maintained. We booked a shared cabin, which was absolutely fine and didn’t feel awkward at all. The station departure boards were a bit confusing, but just check in at the tourist office, the staff will tell you when the train arrives, when to go to the platform, and which carriage to board. Many people arrived very early, but 30–40 minutes before departure is plenty. Overall, a great and relaxed way to travel.
We had a 4 berth sleeping car, but were the only two people in it. Chris was our attendant. He got us settled in our room. he gave me his What’s App# and told me to message him if we needed anything. he brought us tea in the evening and again the morning. the beds are very firm. They had a variety of free snacks in our room. The train was on time. Well done!
I gave it 3 star only because my room was clean. I book a vip room for my self. It’s pretty much desame as the sharing. Same hard bed, same snacks and the toilet was disgusting.
