What to expect

Kyoto is cherished by many as the spiritual home of the Japanese people—a place where scenic beauty harmonizes with centuries-old traditions.

This exhibition features the "One Hundred Views of Kyoto" collection, a project commissioned by Kyoto Prefecture between 1971 and 1972 to preserve the timeless elegance of the ancient capital—its nature, landscapes, historical sites, customs, and annual events—for future generations.

The collection spans eight distinct districts of Kyoto, captured by leading masters of the Japanese painting world (Nihonga). From the original series of 118 works, we have carefully selected 83 masterpieces for this special display. We invite you to explore and enjoy the diverse and seasonal charms of Kyoto through these exquisite paintings.
