What to expect
Start your Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain full day trek with a 4:00 AM pickup in Cusco, followed by a scenic drive through stunning Andean valleys to Cusipata for breakfast. Continue to Pullawasipta (4600 m) to begin your moderate high altitude hike. Trek 1.5 hours to the summit of Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain, 5200 m), spotting llamas, alpacas, and local Quechua communities. A full-day trip, including transportation, breakfast, lunch and Rainbow Mountain tickets, costs less than NT$1,000. Although the one-way journey takes nearly 4 hours, it is still a great value! Rainbow Mountain is 5,000 meters above sea level, and the bus stops at 4,600 meters. Passengers can choose to walk up there for about 45-60 minutes, or take an off-road vehicle or ride a horse at their own expense! I was lazy and chose to ride a horse up the mountain, but in the last 20 minutes I still had to walk up there by myself. If I hadn’t been short on cash, I would have chosen to ride a horse both up and down the mountain😅
Well plan tour. Our guide Edwin is a great tour guide that provided all the required information about rainbow mountain and assistance during the tour. I would recommend taking the emergency horse that cost 80 PEN one way to the base of rainbow mountain. It helps to preserve the energy for an @ 45mins climb up the top. Even though the distance to the top appeared quite short, but the thin air in the high altitude environment, making necessary to stop regularly to catch your breath. The experience is definitely worth it. Breakfast was good but lunch was a bit disappointing, edible but not appertising.
I have a basic level of fitness and found this hike really hard but we'll worth it. The tour company is fantastic and let you go at your own pace, so I didn't feel like I was holding everyone up. The views are amazing and the tour guides are super well versed in the history and culture so we felt like we could ask them anything about the area and the history. I would highly recommend this tour.

We just finished this one-day tour. Overall the experience was good, but when we returned to Cusco, the tour guide asked for our passports and took photos, saying that this was company procedure? We expressed our objection at the time, but the tour guide said that this was the company's policy... Could you please help us clarify this matter? grateful
the mountain was great! a bit harsh to climb up the top, but you can pay to ride a horse!
The arrangement was awesome, tour guide was helpful and the foo was good.
