About

Yau Ma Tei is located in the western part of the Kowloon Peninsula in Hong Kong and is closely connected with Mong Kok. Together with Tsim Sha Tsui, it forms the prosperous "Yu Tsim Mong" district in Kowloon. The name of Yau Ma Tei is closely related to the well-known scenic spot Tin Hau Temple. In the past, the land in front of the Tin Hau Temple used to be the place where fishermen were drying their hemp ropes on their boats. Many shops selling tung oil and hemp ropes were opened there, hence the name "Yu Ma Tei". Compared with Mong Kok, it has a more local atmosphere and is a place to explore the old life of Hong Kong.
