Great

Stayed with family

Breakfast buffet excellent, central garden courtyard was beautiful. Room size was very large and lovely big windows with insect nets to keep cool which were great, beds not the best but fine for a weekend trip. Location about 15 minute walk from train station but a bit out of the way from everything else. Good for price.

Breakfast, could be better. Shouldn’t mixed meat and egg scrambled together.

If you’re looking to experience the “authentic” Roman empire—by that I mean crumbling beds, gladiator-level noise from next door, and staff who greet you like you’ve ruined their holiday—Ateneo Garden Palace is the perfect choice. Check-in was unforgettable: the staff member acted like we should smile at him, and then proudly checked us into a room that was half the size of the one we booked. The bed squeaked with every breath, genuinely felt like it might collapse, a thrilling nightly adventure. Soundproofing? None. You’ll enjoy your neighbours’ “activities” at full volume whether you want to or not. And the “Top Rated Breakfast” (their words, not reality) was an absolute masterpiece: a heroic selection of… eggs and bacon. That’s it. Calling it “top rated” should be considered performance art. Also expect a scenic 10-minute walk from your room to the breakfast area, perfect if you enjoy cardio before coffee. Location-wise, the hotel is far from main attractions and even walking from the station can be unnerving, with people lying on the street at all hours. The cherry on top was their complaint handling: they eagerly ask for “feedback,” but only if it’s praise. Negative comments? Simply ignored. I’m still waiting for a reply about the refund for the wrong room type—maybe I’ll get it before the end of the decade. Overall, a remarkable stay if you love surprises, noise, long walks, and customer service that belongs in ancient Rome.

Good
Mostly everything was good here except the bed was very hard and uncomfortable. I wouldn’t recommend if you are sleep sensitive. Location was a little far, but overall a good hotel. Would be amazing if the beds were good. I lost much sleep here.

No facilities, breakfast has few options (it is American but there are things missing from an American breakfast), food was cold and non heated during the whole duration of breakfast, to eat there were mostly desserts- other options included cereal, cold scrambled eggs, cold bacon, and deli meats; the rest was bread and cakes. No vegan options. Coffee was good. Room was big but furniture is old and neglected. Hotel is 15 min uphill walk to Termini station main entrance.

Upon checking in, we discovered multiple issues that made the room uninhabitable, including: • Mattresses with visible holes, which present a potential risk for pests and infestations. • Presence of dead insects in the mattress (including ants and other insects with wings). • Ant infestation. We vacated the room and secured alternative accommodation for the remainder of our stay in Rome. When we informed the receptionist that we were leaving due to these issues, we were told there could be an extra charge for cancellation. This was particularly disappointing, given the room’s unacceptable condition and the fact that it was already paid for. These conditions are a serious hygiene and health concern, far below the standards expected of any four star hotel accommodation.
