Great
We had a great stay at Omiya. Yes, the building is old and some parts have seen better days (our tatami floor was very stained). But, the location is fantastic. Close to Kyoto station and less than a 20 min walk from the hustle and bustle - it’s located in a nice and quiet residential area. It’s a cheap stay and the public bath is clean and great (both of us had the male and female baths to ourselves most evenings). Futons are comfy and I’ve slept on the exact same in other ryokan. Pillows can be on the hard side if it’s your first experience in a traditional Japanese room. Last but not least, the staff is excellent and very helpful. Would stay again!

It’s a very well aged facility, the room was spacious but the bathroom is small, with no power outlets. I’m 5’6 and can easily touch the ceiling. But overall it is a very quiet neighbourhood, close to the bus stop, and Kyoto station.

I would not stay here again and I would not recommend this to my friends and relatives. You just can't remove the comforts like bed, table, chairs and make you sleep on a futon bed on the floor and make you use old toilet and shower and call it Ryokan experience. Did not bother to check the baths etc.,Only grace for this hotel was the person who was manning the reception. He was very nice and courteous.

Bring a pillow. The beds themselves are really comfortable but the pillows were pretty uncomfortable. The building itself was pretty empty and the women’s bath area was really nice (it looked like it was redone recently). There’s a shared restroom on each floor but since there weren’t many other people it was private for the most part. They have a place on the balcony to dry your clothes as well.

The pillows aren’t great and the building is pretty old, but the owner was nice and it’s cheap and close to Kyoto station.
