Highly informative and engaging tour, it's like an inside info storytelling session, except these are real.
It doesn't feel like 3h
Think you know the origins of our Bak Kut Teh & Singapore breakfast?
Come listen to Patrick's version & decide the perspective you want to take.
Highly recommended! Gonna check out Patrick's other tours on Perspective, subsidiary of 8th wave.
I really like that 30% of the tour fees goes to beneficiaries that goes to supporting people who need a little support from the more fortunate ones in Singapore.
It was an amazing tour with Patrick as our guide, leading us around some of the familiar parts of Singapore, but fascinating us with so many interesting stories of our country's history that we were unaware of prior to the tour, and most importantly, how they relate to the foods & drinks that we sampled along the way. The tour was well planned and its flow was perfect. This tour is arguably one of the best we have attended out of many similar tours we have joined locally and overseas. Highly recommended, especially if you have a soft spot for local coffees and teas. We absolutely enjoyed ourselves from the start of the tour till the end.
4 of us went for this local tour using our Singapore Rediscover voucher. We received a text from the guide, Lai Yoke, that gives the place to meet and what to bring. That's very helpful. We started with a commentary of the Squatters statue and the history of the place and immigrants. This was followed by an interesting introduction to coffee and tea. Before we set off for the bak-kut-teh (pork ribs) lunch, we were told how this dish originated. A short walk and we were treated to an old stall serving Hokkien style pork rib soup. Next we passed by a tea store that serves bubble tea and traditional Chinese tea. Another walk, we had coffee and bread (local teabreak set) at Nanyang Coffee that also houses a simple coffee museum. It's informative and nice to understand more about our own Singapore stories. Fully recommended.
Went with mum and sis to the kopi & cha's tour yesterday. Our tour guide Patrick was very knowledgeable and entertaining, he shared with us the different perspective of Singapore history relating to our tour. We had delicious traditional bakuteh at Hong Lim Hawker Centre, and complimented our lunch with fragrance Chinese tea from an oldest tea merchant in Singapore, and ended our tour with yummy kaya toast and nanyang kopi.
What I appreciate from this tour is a deeper understanding of the history, the changing landscape and the struggles of keeping the traditional cultures alive in this part of Singapore. Our friendly guide, Patrick is able to explain all these clearly. Overall, I found this an enjoyable and relaxed experience.
Highly recommended tour. If you are looking at a tour that can fill you soul. mind and stomach, look no further. Patrick is a researcher, lecturer, story teller and a soulful Singaporean who will ignite our love for this little country, our unique culture, our people and embrace our past that we never knew. A tour that is priceless !
