WITHSTAND｜Ukrainian Photo Exhibition Introduction

Galerie artellex, a local photography and printing studio in the Lai Chi Kok district, opened earlier this year and frequently exhibits work by local photographers. Recent exhibitions include a work titled “Dust in Serenity” with the writer of "Hong Kong Reminiscence" - Lam Hiu Man and “Diana & The Queen’s” with Hong Kong veteran photojournalist Kan Tai Wong. There are collaborations of sharing high-quality pigment printing techniques and excellent photographic work with the community. Artellex Galerie artellex will present a Ukrainian photo exhibition titled "WITHSTAND" from April 4th to May 19th, 2023, showcasing the experiences of photographer Pakkin Leung who visited Poland and Ukraine in 2022 and 2023.

"After World War II, the flames of war reignited on the European continent. In the face of authoritarian barbarism and madness, Pakkin Leung, by chance, witnessed how Ukrainians survived difficult times. Since the outbreak of war, He has listened to the interpretations of their self-identity and mission in various complex emotions from Ukrainian people who have left and stayed, and their various behaviors can provide reference and warning for world citizens who aspire to universal values. In this world, those ordinary people who stand up are extraordinary!"

About Pakkin Leung

Pakkin Leung lived in Nigeria in Africa for many years during his youth and studied fine arts at the Wanchai Art Centre after returning to Hong Kong, where he has been working as a photographer. At the end of February 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine, he changed his travel plans, which were originally intended for covering the French presidential election in Paris and went to the Polish-Ukrainian border to witness the humanitarian crisis, continuously documenting the situation of those who left home, rescue organizations, and volunteers from various countries. At the end of the same year, Pakkin Leung visited Kyiv, Ukraine again, hoping to document the living conditions of residents who chose to stay.
