Show Introduction

The garden of the flute: a musical journey through time
The flute is one of the most ancient of instruments—known in every world culture for its brilliance and its tenderness. It has evolved over time and Hong Kong flautist Tsang Yat-ho has made a special study of flutes of the 18th and 19th centuries in the European canon.
In two specially curated concerts, he will present two centuries of western flute development. In the first concert, he will perform sonatas written by Bach, Handel, Telemann and Hotteterre on a baroque flute with harpsichord accompaniment. In the second, he will perform the music of Beethoven, Reinecke, Böhm and Gaubert on a classical eight-keyed flute with fortepiano accompaniment, and on an original wooden Böhm-flute made by Böhm’s apprentice Rittershausen in around 1910. The show is a journey through time, filled with magical sounds and delightful melodies, brought to life by Tsang Yat-ho’s own engaging musical personality.
