I experienced mother-of-pearl inlay for the first time. My mother came to visit from Japan, and I wanted to share a memorable experience in Korea with her, so we decided to try it together. Before we started making anything, the instructor gave us a detailed explanation about the history of mother-of-pearl inlay. The explanation included videos, which made it very easy to understand. Also, the explanation was all in Korean, but they spoke slowly, so I was able to understand most of it. It was difficult, but I was happy to create a one-of-a-kind original piece. My mother was also very pleased.
Very fun class, creative and relaxing for all ages. Multiple options for things to make. The finish of the shells are enhanced. To find the location by subway, take the Purple Line 5 to Dapsimni Station, exit 4. On the same side as the subway exit (to the left) is the entrance (building says 295). View the attached images. Take the elevator to the 9th floor (shop is called "Concept"), which is the last room of the corridor on the left.
The Klook booking experience was very good. We enjoyed this workshop and the experience itself. The items we worked on by far are the best souvenir items we will be taking home from this trip. However, the "How to get there" Klook instructions weren't easy to follow. The company name nor "902-C Woochamg Plaze" was no where to be found especially for foreigners. Suggest writing 9th floor, suite 2C to clarify. And also posting the building picture (attached) for visual assistance as it is also not labelled building 295 per instructions. otherwise the workshop itself is highly recommended. Despite limited English the lady was so helpful and lovely.
The lady knows basic English and tries her best to explain everything in English. If she doesn't know how to explain something properly or to make it easier to understand, she uses a translator. Depending on the package chosen, she shows you the options and then selects something. A video tells you something about the history. And then you can start designing the object. If you need something for support (brush, scissors...) or help, she will help you. The staff is polite, friendly, nice and open to everyone. If there are children in the course, they are helped with care and asked if they need help with the design.
I had a great time making my necklace, Had a peaceful atelier.
We made some really beautiful pieces. The teacher gave us enough time and space to be creative and immersed in our work. She also told us a lot about the history of the work and about sine of the pieces.
We had a great time at this Mother of pearl craft workshop! My husband and I chose to decorate miniature trays. He picked a more round one and I went with a rectangular shape. The instructor provided all the materials necessary and showed us how to do it. We got to create our own designs. My husband made a Hokusai-inspired design, and I chose a natural, abstract style with my name in the center. We had fun thinking of our designs and worked hard to realize it. After we finished gluing the pearl inlay, the instructor added the final glaze. The result turned out beautifully! The colors are very elegant and shiny, and we’re both very happy with the result.
I was lucky enough to have the studio by myself! it was SO peaceful and I loved the slides and video the teacher prepared. She was very nice and kind~ even more so she waited for me because I was a bit late. So definitely follow the directions of the comments because the one on Klook is wrong😭🤚🏽
It's a fun little activity, definitely recommended. While the variety of shapes and symbols is not as big as in some other workshops, there's still a ton of pieces to choose from. What I love the most is that no matter what design or pattern you choose, it always looks really cool. The instructor was amazing, too. She was very encouraging and sweet. Overall, a great activity.
It was amazing overall really good and positive experience. The explanation was clear despite lack of English skills, but everything was communicated effectively. The worker was friendly friendly and helpful. The design can be tricky to stick down if your hands are unsteady or you go for a difficult design (like we did). But the overall experience was very positive. I attached a before and after glossing photo.
