For those visiting Kamikochi for the first time, we recommend taking this beginner-friendly route! You can tour the major attractions of Kamikochi without having to retrace your steps. The total distance is about 3.5 km and can be completed in about 1 to 1.5 hours. The trail is flat and easy to walk, and the continuous magnificent mountain scenery along the way will definitely leave you enchanted and reluctant to leave!
Taisho Pond is a volcanic lake formed by the volcanic eruption of Mount Yakedake. The "withered standing trees" in the lake present different magical scenery depending on the season and time.
Tashiroike Pond is a shallow wetland, and the fresh green of May, the yellow leaves of October, and the thin ice of late autumn are all breathtaking sights.
Kappa Bridge is a suspension bridge built with larch wood, measuring 3.1 meters wide and 36.6 meters long. It is a symbolic landmark of Kamikochi, offering magnificent views from the bridge such as the Hotaka mountain range and the Dakesawa marsh nestled between the peaks.
Walking from Kappa Bridge along the upper stream of the Azusa River to Myojin takes about 60 minutes. This area is known as the sacred domain of the Hotaka Shrine Okumiya. With various wild plants and wild birds, it is a great place to calm your mind and experience the tranquility surrounded by nature. The view of Mount Myojin from Myojin Bridge is also spectacular, attracting numerous photography enthusiasts.

In front of the Okumiya of Hotaka Shrine stands a resting place known as "Kamonji Hut," boasting a long history since its founding in 1880. Gathering around the traditional hearth (irori) and enjoying freshly grilled char will surely make you lose track of time.
