What to expect
This is a one-day trip from Tokyo to "Iwappara Ski Resort" in the "Echigo Yuzawa" area, a popular ski resort in Japan.
Depart from Tokyo Station at 7:30 AM by chartered bus, and arrive at the ski resort in about 3 hours.
Iwappara Ski Resort is one of the most popular ski resorts in the Kanto region, loved by beginners and families since its opening in 1931. The ski resort has 20 different levels of slopes, including 2 advanced (black diamond), 7 intermediate (red diamond), and multiple beginner (green circle) slopes, with over 40% being beginner routes. Its most distinctive feature is the super-wide beginner slope, spanning 600 meters, allowing beginners to practice S-turns with peace of mind, while advanced skiers can fully enjoy carving techniques.
The snow quality at Iwappara Ski Resort is natural powder snow, soft and fine. The perceived temperature is usually around 0°C, not too cold, making it comfortable for skiing even for those who are sensitive to cold. The entire ski area has a smooth layout, with 7 lifts providing access to the main areas. Approximately 85% of the front mountain is open, offering excellent views, making it very suitable for teaching or enjoying with companions.
Ski lessons are also available here (can be booked in advance), with options for English and Chinese instruction. The lessons are small group classes of 4-6 people, divided by skill level, so both beginners and experienced skiers can participate with confidence.
In addition to skiing, there is also a family snow play park here, which is the largest snow play area in Japan! Facilities include snow tubes, snowmobiles, balance bikes, and also "Kids' Paradise Sledding Area" and "SpongeBob Kids' Park" specially designed for children, allowing them to experience the fun of playing in the snow in a safe and enjoyable environment. Parents can also join their children to build snowmen and have snowball fights, and when tired, they can warm up with a hot drink in the rest area.
At 4:00 PM, take the chartered bus back to Tokyo, bringing a perfect end to this winter one-day trip full of snow fun.

Reviews
The destination and the place itself were perfect. As someone experiencing snow and skiing for the first time, I was hoping for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. However, there were some drawbacks. The guide did not set clear expectations upon arrival; we wasted time waiting for him to resolve issues for other guests when we could have proceeded on our own. Had he told us to head straight to the rental shop, we would have saved a lot of time. The rental shop was another frustration. No one assisted us, and we were left to figure it out ourselves. With only six hours to enjoy the resort, the waiting and the rental process ate up nearly half our day. Nevertheless, it was still an enjoyable experience.
We were supposed to go to Iwahara ski resort but it does not have much snow yet so the travel company arranged us to go to Gala Ski resort instead. We still end up having a great experience. The tour guide Frenkie was very active and knows the way around and how to maximize our time. The driver was also good and kept us safe throughout our journey. The transportation was very convenient and comfortable compared to the usual bus transport we have from our previous tours. The sled was free as part of the package. Overall it was a great value for money as well as a great first snow experience for my family.
The trip was nice especially for family with kids experiencing snow for the first time. The view was stunning! Leonard, our guide, was very nice and accommodating. He speaks good english, too!
We had to change destination as the weather was not good at the ski resort and was closed. Great contingency plan to move to another resort. Kids enjoyed the sledding!
Our tour guide, Anna, was very attentive and even taught us some skiing techniques. The whole itinerary was pretty well-organized. It's very convenient to do a day trip to and from Tokyo.
Tour package is a fun day trip for kids + family who just want to play at snow amusement ground (no skiing/snowboarding). I would rate it higher, if it wasn't for the lack of guide professionalism. our guide TONY wasn't really that informative (always can't seem to give us the basic info when ask about the tour)...he also lack of tour management skills (he left us all waiting for answers/tickets for almost an hour) out in the cold...perhaps GoGoDay tour operator should have pick a more seasoned informative guide in future.
Iwahara Ski Resort has excellent quality natural powder snow, making for a fantastic skiing experience. Whether you're practicing solo or traveling with family, it's the top choice for skiing in Yuzawa! The driver and guide are both great, highly recommended.
Surreal experienced! The itinerary is followed on time.
The ski resort is well-established and friendly to both beginners and experts. I would go again if I have the chance. The scenery is beautiful 😻. I was lucky enough to meet a few skiing buddies.
Love it! What a beautiful place, the drives is so kind as well. Thank you!
