What to expect
When the smoke rises, it is the beginning of our sharing and feeling life with each other. The scene of hunters carrying prey down the mountain is the daily life of the Jiawan tribe being taken care of by the forest. We gathered around the three-stone stove in the bamboo hut and listened to the method of smoking meat. It not only preserves food, but also smokes building materials, just like smoking the ancestral house in the past, and also preserves our memories.
In the bamboo hut, we listened to the elders sharing their hunting stories; we got to know the common crops of the tribe - red quinoa, moon peach, tree bean, mountain sedge, buckwheat, banana, and thorn onion - what is more unforgettable is peeling the dried corn kernels, everything is like the busy work of childhood, simply and happily cooking corn porridge together.
Before enjoying the meal, we made the tableware by hand. During the preparation process, the smoke of smoked food was always around. The meal recorded the temperature and taste of the land prepared together. Through simple seasoning and life-like plating, what was served was the bits and pieces of tribal life, and we enjoyed the warm and thick flavor of the tribe's daily life.
Welcome everyone to Hualien Xiulin Township, walk at a slow pace, and follow the culture and stories of the Taroko people. Thank you for the gift of the land. We continue to care for the land with a sustainable lifestyle. Dazhuzi Walking Tribe looks forward to you coming to enjoy the "wild life"!
