What to expect
The KBr Barcelona Photo Center is a cultural space created by Fundación MAPFRE to deepen its commitment to artistic photography, a key area of its work since 2009. Located near Barcelona’s Olympic Port, a popular area for leisure, KBr features two exhibition halls, a bookshop, an education area, and a multipurpose auditorium. It has become a leading venue for photography both nationally and internationally. The center hosts rotating exhibitions that highlight influential figures and moments in photographic history. Currently on view is Edward Weston. The Matter of Shapes, a retrospective exploring Weston’s evolution from Pictorialism to Straight Photography, showcases nearly 200 black-and-white images that reflect his vision. Alongside it, Joan Andreu Puig Farran: A Decade of Turmoil (1929–1939) presents an impactful chronicle of Catalonia's socio-political unrest during the pre-war decade through the lens of a dedicated photojournalist, offering visual testimony from both civilian life and the Spanish Civil War
